Is Weight Loss Surgery for You?

Losing weight has been based on various types of exercises, diets, and lifestyles. Have you tried several methods of losing weight to no avail? However, the bulk of them has not been as successful as proclaimed. You have probably read in various reports that to lose weight, you must exercise more and eat less. And it is possible that you are always on a diet and forever making efforts to lose weight- you lose and gain and lose and gain, and the cycle seems never-ending.
Obesity has several effects that prevent the proper use of the body, and this can create health or life-threatening risks. Therefore, you must not be carefree with your health. Now that you have exhausted almost all the proffered solutions to obesity, you are left with one unfailing solution- bariatric surgery. Are you one of the people who require weight loss surgery? You will realize if you need bariatric surgery by answering the following questions:
  1. Are you overweight by 100 pounds?
You are a candidate for weight loss surgery if you hit the lowest overweight threshold of 100 pounds more than the acceptable ideal weight. The pounds can be less if you have certain health risks or conditions that will be improved by losing weight, e.g. diabetes.
  1. Have you tried all diets possible?
Before you can decide to go for weight loss surgery, you need to establish the fact that you have tried and failed several weight loss programs. It is advisable that you keep a record of all weight loss programs you have attempted and failed. It just seems as if all the diets in the world would work for you.
  1. Are you inspired?
If you are tired and sick of being obese and you are motivated to do whatever can make you lose weight, weight loss surgery is for you. Meanwhile, you would need to follow a diet after having the weight loss surgery.
If your response to the three questions is “yes,” then bariatric surgery is for you. The next step you have to take is to contact a certified doctor for the best type of weight loss surgery that is most suitable for you.
Now that you have realized that the surgery is for you and you want to have it, all you are left to do is contact Dr. Joya on https://drjoyaofficial.com/ to more information and book for the surgery. He is an experienced and certified doctor with over 16 years’ experience and more than 5,000 weight loss surgeries.

Decídete a recibir ayuda médica.

Fiber help prevent obesity and diabetes

Scientists may have uncovered the mechanism by which fiber helps prevent obesity and diabetes, in a study conducted by a French-Swedish research team and published in the journal Cell in January 2014. Notably, this finding points to a key role played by intestinal flora, the microorganisms that naturally inhabit the human gut.

Dietary fiber, or roughage, occurs in two separate forms: soluble and insoluble. Insoluble fiber cannot be digested by the body, but still plays a critical role in absorbing water from the digestive system and providing bulk to keep the intestinal muscles healthy and toned.

Soluble fiber, also known as prebiotic, viscous or fermentable fiber, cannot be digested either. Unlike insoluble fiber, however, soluble fiber is fermented by intestinal microbes into short-chain fatty acids and gases (including propionate and butyrate) which the body can digest.

Research has shown that diets high in fiber significantly reduce the risk of diabetes and obesity in humans and other animals. According to a research review published in the International Journal of Food Safety, Nutrition and Public Health in 2011, the widespread adoption of the Western diet has led to a reduction in fiber intake worldwide and a concurrent increase in health conditions such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Physiologically, fiber has been shown to lower cholesterol levels, increase calcium availability, boost immune function, maintain gastrointestinal health and help regulate blood sugar levels.

Fiber causes glucose production, hunger suppression

Because soluble fiber is processed in the intestines, the French and Swedish researchers decided to investigate whether fiber's health-promoting properties might be related to the intestine's ability to produce glucose.

Like the liver and certain other organs, the intestine is capable of breaking down stored energy into glucose, in order to make energy available to the body between meals or at night. When the intestine produces glucose, the sugar is detected by the nerves in the walls of the portal vein, which collects blood flowing immediately out of the intestine. These nerves then signal the brain, which sends signals to the body designed to reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes: reduced hunger, increased rest-energy expenditure and reduced glucose production by the liver.

In order to examine the relationship between soluble fiber and intestinal glucose, the researchers fed rats and mice diets high in soluble fiber, propionate or butyrate. The researchers found that, in these rodents, genes and enzymes responsible for intestinal glucose synthesis became significantly more active. They also found that propionate was used directly by the intestine as part of the glucose production process.

In addition, rodents given a high-fiber, high-sugar and high-fat diet became less obese and developed less insulin resistance than rodents fed a high-sugar, high-fat low-fiber diet.

The researchers then performed the experiment again, this time with mice genetically modified to be unable to produce glucose in their intestines. In the genetically modified mice, a high-fiber diet offered no protection against obesity or diabetes; mice on the high-fiber diet became just as fat as mice on the low-fiber diet.

These findings not only help increase scientific understanding of the importance of dietary fiber but also highlight the important role played by healthy, naturally occurring intestinal flora. They also demonstrate the key role that the intestine plays in regulating the body's glucose levels.

Increasing your fiber intake is one of the easiest ways to combat the negative effects of a Western diet. In order to avoid unpleasant digestive side effects, fiber intake is best increased gradually and should be spread across all meals and snacks eaten during the course of the day.

Cambios a nivel hormonal

Scary truth about obesity in developing world

It's quite alarming to realize that the number of overweight and obese adults in the developing world has almost quadrupled to nearly one billion since 1980 because of this, The Overseas Development Institute urged goverments to do more to influence diets.
A quick fact, one in three people worldwide is now overweight, and guess what? this results on a huge increase in heart attacks, strokes and diabetes.
Globally, the percentage of adults who were overweight or obese - having a body mass index greater than 25 - grew from 23% to 34% between 1980 and 2008.
A great part of this increase was seen in the developing world, particularly in countries where incomes were rising, such as Egypt and Mexico. The ODI's Future Diets report says this is caused  by the change in diets and a shift from eating cereals and grains to the consumption of more fats, sugar, oils and animal products.
A total of 904 million people in developing countries are now classed as overweight or above, with a BMI of more than 25, up from 250 million in 1980.This compares to 557 million in high-income countries. Over the same period, the global population nearly doubled.

Obesity and health risks

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in 2004 shows how bariatric surgery can improve the following co-morbidities:

Type 2 diabetes was improved significantly in 86% of patients and resolved in 76% of patients.
High Blood Pressure was improved in 78% of patients and resolved in 61%.
High cholesterol levels were reduced in over 70% of patients.
Sleep apnea was eliminated 85% of patients.
The decision to have obesity surgery is not to be taken lightly, for us is very important to provide each patient with detailed information to determine whether they are a candidate for surgery and decide which bariatric procedure is right for them based on their individualized health history and lifestyle.

Central or Abdominal Obesity Carries Greater Health Risks

Abdominal obesity characterized by excessive visceral fat around the stomach and abdomen is one of the core symptoms of cardiovascular disease and insulin resistance syndrome.

Increased Health Risk of Premature Death

The risk of premature death rises with increasing weight. Individuals who are obese (BMI greater than 30) have a 50 to 100 percent increased risk of premature death from all causes, compared to individuals with a healthy weight.

Increased Health Risk of Heart Disease

The risk of heart attack, congestive heart failure, sudden cardiac death, angina or chest pain is increased in persons who are overweight or obese. High blood pressure is twice as common in adults who are obese than in those who are at a healthy weight. Obesity is associated with high triglycerides and decreased HDL cholesterol.

Increased Health Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

Over 80 percent of people with diabetes are overweight or obese. This may account for the newly invented word, “diabesity”®, which signifies the close association between obesity and diabetes.

Increased Health Risk of Cancers

Obesity is associated with an increased risk for some types of cancer including endometrial (cancer of the lining of the uterus), colon, gall bladder, prostate, kidney, and post-menopausal breast cancer.

Increased Health Risk of Fatty Liver Disease

The main cause of non alcoholic fatty liver disease is insulin resistance, a metabolic disorder in which cells become insensitive to the effect of insulin. One of the most common risk factors for insulin resistance is obesity, especially central abdominal obesity. The higher the BMI the worse the liver disease.

Increased Health Risk of Breathing Problems

Obstructive sleep apnea (that is, interrupted breathing during sleeping) is more common in obese persons.

Increased Health Risk of Arthritis

Musculoskeletal disorders, including osteoarthritis, are much more prevalent among obese patients, especially patients diagnosed with severe clinical or morbid obesity. Health studies show that obesity is a strong predictor for symptoms of osteoarthritis, especially in the knees. The risk of osteoarthritis increases with every 2-pound gain in weight.

Health Risks of Adult Obesity

There is now good evidence to show that adult obesity is associated with a wide range of health problems, these are summarised below.

Musculoskeletal system
  • Raised body weight puts strain on the body's joints, especially the knees, increasing the risk of osteoarthritis (degeneration of cartilage and underlying bone within a joint).
  • There is also an increased risk of low back pain.

Circulatory system
  • Raised BMI increases the risk of hypertension (high blood pressure), which is itself a risk factor for coronary heart disease and stroke and can contribute to other conditions such as renal failure.
  • The risk of coronary heart disease (including heart attacks and heart failure) and stroke are both substantially increased.
  • Risks of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are also increased.

Metabolic and endocrine systems
  • The risk of Type 2 diabetes is substantially raised: it has been estimated that excess body fat underlies almost two-thirds of cases of diabetes in men and three quarters of cases in women. Diabetes currently affects nearly 200 million people worldwide and International Diabeted Federation predict that this will increase to over 330 million by 2025, with a massive burden in developing countries. Worldwide, the number of people with diabetes has tripled since 1985.
  • There is a greater risk of dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides), which also contributes to the risk of circulatory disease by speeding up atherosclerosis (fatty changes to the linings of the arteries).
  • Metabolic syndrome is a combination of disorders including high blood glucose, high blood pressure and high cholesterol and triglyderide levels. It is more common in obese individuals and is associated with significant risks of coronary heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

Cancers
  • The risk of several cancers is higher in obese people, including endometrial, breast and colon cancers.

Reproductive and urological problems
  • Obesity is associated with greater risk of stress incontinence in women.
  • Obese women are at greater risk of menstrual abnormalities, polycystic ovarian syndrome and infertility.
  • Obese men are at higher risk of erectile dysfunction.
  • Maternal obesity is associated with health risks for both the mother and the child during and after pregnancy. Click here for more information on maternal obesity

Respiratory problems
  • Overweight and obese people are at increased risk of sleep apnoea (interruptions to breathing while asleep) and other respiratory problems such as asthma.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
  • The term ‘non-alcoholic fatty liver disease’ (NAFLD) refers to a range of conditions resulting from the accumulation of fat in cells inside the liver. It is one of the commonest forms of liver disease in the UK. If left untreated, it may progress to severe forms such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis and cirrhosis. It has also been linked to liver cancer.
  • Obesity is an important risk factor for the condition: over 66% of overweight people, and over 90% of obese individuals, have NAFLD [1]. As levels of obesity have risen, so has the prevalence of NAFLD.
  • There is a lack of high quality data related to the prevalence of NAFLD in the UK, but international studies estimate that NAFLD is likely to affect around 20% of adults (estimates across countries range from 6% to 35%) and 10-15% of children worldwide [2, 3]. This is due to a number of factors including variations in diagnostic criteria, the invasive nature of diagnosis, and the lack of symptoms in people with mild forms of the condition.
  • Approaches to tackling the condition focus on weight reduction through a combination of diet and physical activity, but there is no specific evidence-based treatment for NAFLD.

Gastrointestinal disease
Obesity is associated with:
  • Increased risk of gastro-oesophageal reflux
  • Increased risk of gall stones
  • Psychological and social problems
  • Overweight and obese people may suffer from stress, low self-esteem, social disadvantage, depression and reduced libido.

2. Se realiza mediante el proceso de Laparoscopia.
3. No requiere desconectar y volver a conectar.
